Glaze Making Course - 2 Day

£250

This two day glaze making course runs from 10am to 4.30pm on Friday April 26th and Friday May 3rd. Taught by Lindy Barletta.

This course will teach you how to make a base glaze for stoneware or porcelain clay and firing at cone 8-10 (1260 to 1300) in an electric kiln. These glaze recipes can also be used in reduction firings.

Day 1: (April 26th) We will go over health and safety information and make the base glaze. We will use colouring oxides in a colour blend making 15 different glazes. Notes of combinations will be made and stoneware test tiles will be supplied. Tiles will then be glazed, labelled and named.

Day 2: (May 3rd) Samples will be fired and ready for analysis on day 2. You will then choose your favourite of the glaze samples to make up a 5 litre quantity to take away with you for your own use. Time permitting you may bring one bisque fired pot to glaze in this new glaze and to practise glazing technique.

Additional class information …

Alongside the making and testing of glazes Lindy will also demonstrate the main glazing techniques, dipping, pouring, painting and spraying and we can also discuss underglaze application and techniques. Please bring with you; a notebook, an apron, lunch (or you can buy from a cafe/bakery near by) and a mask if you have one - although a good quality disposable one can be provided.

The course includes:
